KARACHI: A team of students from Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) bagged 3rd position in Urban Concept Fuel save category in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, a statement said on Monday.
Around 42 teams participated in the street circuit in which Team Innova from Pakistan ran prototype vehicle for 58.1 kilometers in a liter and secured third position.

Students from 17 countries took part in the marathon which was held in Manila and witnessed five new mileage records.
Teams from Japan and Indonesia clinched first and second position in the same category. The Japanese team set a new record mileage of 1,245 km/liter at the street circuit. While, Team Indonesia doubled last year’s result with record 153 km/liter.
Last year, the Team Pakistan from GIKI managed to secure 6th position while PNEC-NUST won the Off-track Communications Award.
Speaking of Pakistan’s progress in Shell marathon, Afshan Khan, Social Investment Manager, Shell Pakistan said, “This is a remarkable achievement for Pakistan and proves that resilience and persistent hard work pays off.”
Three other teams achieving new mileage records include Team Vietnam that won the Urban Concept Alternative Fuel category with 164 km/liter on ethanol, Prototype Battery Electric champion Team Thailand finished with a mileage of 451km/kWh and Team Malaysia bettered their own winning result last year to champion the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Cell category again with a record mileage of 315 km/m3.
