SBP swimming pool inaugurated

LAHORE: The state of art Sports Board Punjab swimming pool has on Tuesday formally been inaugurated for international competitions.

Completed at a cost of Rs 540 million, the facility is constructed at 45 canal land next to Cycling Velodrome, near Gaddafi Stadium. The swimming arena only of its kind in the province has two full length swimming pools – one of 50 metres and the other 25 metres. This four season swimming facility will now open for holding international competitions.

It was one of the visions of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif, who wanted to see various sports played at every nook and corner of the country as it used to be played till early 90s. The facility was on Tuesday inaugurated the chief minister in the presence of Provincial sports minister Jahangir Khanzada, secretary sports Amer Jan and other officials of SPB.

Also present on the occasion was Zaheer Abbas, Asian Bradman, Aaqib Javed, Intikhab Alam, Pakistan hockey captain Akhtar Rasool, Khawaja Junaid, former LRCA president Khawaja Nadeem. The chief minister was escorted to various sections of the Swimming Complex and was apprised of the facilities provided to the swimmers - both male and female and children alike.

Mian Shehbaz Sharif asked the sports administration to depute those people at the swimming pool who believe in hard work and train such a swimmers who bring medals from international competitions.
