Game of power

January 17, 2018

Our political leaders become wiser when they are not in power. The former prime minister, before assuming power in 2013, had expressed his desire to govern from modest house in order to curtail government expenditure. Unfortunately after taking power, neither did he cut the size of his government nor introduced a drive for economic growth. His finance minister continued showing a rosy picture of economic growth, which probably was far from reality. Now as a former prime minister he has asked his successor to have a look into the deteriorating economic situation and speed up the projects initiated by him.

Contrary to this, the government appointed a finance advisor and a special assistant to prime minister. These steps do not indicate government desire and commitment to introduce well-thought-out economic measures to strengthen the economy. One hopes and prays that our leaders shun their habits of self-praise and stop abusing their opponents of being unpatriotic. The leaders must keep this in mind that “At the time of reckoning no one was better than the other.” Also, “when weighed in balance all are found in wanting.”
