Lawyers boycott courts to condemn Kasur incident

PESHAWAR: Legal fraternity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday observed a complete boycott from courts over the rape and brutal killing of a minor girl Zainab at Kasur.

The lawyers observed the strike across the province on the call of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council.Like other districts, the lawyers in provincial metropolis also stayed away from the Peshawar High Court and district courts. Vice-chairman KP Bar Council, Muhammad Sareer Khan said the purpose of the strike was to protest the inhuman act, press the government and law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprits involved in the crime.

He urged the government to introduce a strict law to punish the culprits and put an end to such crimes in future. The PHC Bar Association president Muhammad Usman Khan and general secretary Rahmanullah Khan also condemned the incident and urged the government to bring the culprits to justice.

Meanwhile, a lawyer Shah Faisal Ilyas moved an application in the PHC Bar Association. He sought requisition of a General Body meeting of the association for condemning the strikes, which were being observed by various lawyers bodies on political and other issues which were not related to the legal fraternity. He said poor litigants and professional lawyers suffered due to what he believed was irresponsible behaviour ofthe bodies.
