Despite several court orders, the people affected by the Lyari Expressway project have not been compensated to date. The project, which hasn’t been completed yet, was started fifteen years ago. Under the project, various residential and commercial properties were acquired by the authorities and the owners were promised compensation. However, the affected people were not paid any amount because the government didn’t allocate sufficient funds for the resettlement project.
After being deprived of their own homes, many people have acquired property on rent. Running a household in today’s expensive world is a Herculean task. Because of the negligence of the authorities, a vast majority is left to pay huge amount of money in rent. The Sindh government must pay attention to the problems of the affected people. Adequate funds should be allocated for the resettlement of the affected people.
