Highwayman killed in encounter

OKARA: A highwayman was killed in an encounter with police here on Wednesday night.

The police were on routine patrolling when they signaled three suspects at Shahamand Bridge, but they did not stop their motorcycle. To it, the police started chasing them. At Nihal Mehr Morr, the motorcycle of the suspects slipped and they fell on a road. However, they managed to take shelter in the fields and opened fire on the police, which was retaliated by them. As a result, one of the highwaymen was killed on the spot while the others managed to escape. The identity of the killed highwayman could not be traced till the filing of the report. Meanwhile, District Police Officer Hassan Asad Alvi has established police teams to arrest the fleeing outlaws. A case has been registered.

FIVE BOOTLEGGERS HELD: Police Thursday arrested five bootleggers and recovered liquor from their possession. A-Division police arrested Adna of Ibrahim Colony and recovered 18 litre liquor. The Sadr Okara police arrested accused Hassan Shah of 20/GD with 22 litre liquor, the Hujra police unearthed a running brewery and arrested accused Kabir of Jandran Kalan with 70 litre liquor. The Sadr Okara police detained accused Wasim of 3/4L with 19 litre liquor and accused Azeem Ullah of 38/2RA with 420 gram charas. Cases were registered against the accused.
