Islamabad:In a move seen as an immediate relief to the upset and protesting daily-wage employees of the federal capital’s government schools and colleges, state minister for the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Thursday formed a committee to suggest a way forward on the issue of their regularisation in light of the relevant laws and court orders.

The committee consisting of the representatives of daily wagers, CADD, city's deputy mayors and legal experts will hold maiden meeting today (Friday).

Also, the minister announced he would meet finance minister for the release of funds to pay salary to those daily wagers and arrears. The development came as a delegation of daily-wage teachers met the minister in his office on Thursday amid their strike and agitation against non-payment of salary for many months and denial of permanent jobs after long service.

The minister assured them he would ensure the early yet effective resolution of their problems to ease their misery. In the day, the daily-wage employees boycotted duty suspending academic activities at local public sector schools by and large especially when the academic session is nearing end.

They gathered outside the National Press Club shouting slogans against the CADD for denying them service regularisation and salary payment and advertising fresh teacher posts. The protesters said they would continue with the boycott of duty until the formal meeting of their demands by the relevant authorities. The civil society activists and politicians also showed up to show solidarity with them and said they would raise voice for the daily wagers' rights at all available forums.
