PTI takes dismal view of law, order in Punjab

LAHORE: The PTI took a dismal view of the law and order in the Punjab during the last year and issued a whitepaper on Thursday.

According to the whitepaper issued by former Punjab governor and member of core committee of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Ch Muhammad Sarwar, 1,725 cases of rape and 195 cases of gang rape were reported in one year with a daily average of five. The document said 6,000 people were killed in violent incidents. Over 100 children and women were killed after assaults, and 41,000 incidents of theft and dacoity were registered. It said 76,000 absconders, including 500 with head money, and 109 terrorists, are committing crimes on a daily basis. Over 74pc cases were reported in rural areas while 26pc in urban areas. The ratio of apprehension of criminals remained less than 20pc.

Ch Sarwar urged the government to try the accused of sexual violence and child molestation in military courts and demanded quick trial and public hanging in the Zainab case. He blasted the government for its failure to curb child molestation because in Pakistan everyday 4-5 children become victims of molestation, while the government is doing nothing. Kasur and Faisalabad districts are on top of this list. Over 3,100 mysterious deaths were also reported, the document said.

According to the paper, over 3,500 people committed suicide in Punjab while 209 killed during dacoity incidents. Punjab police have failed to trace two missing German citizens Jeewani Spato and Bird. Police also failed to recover the body of Canada-Indian banker Rajwind Core Gul. Over 34,000 cases were registered in Punjab while registration of one million cases was adjourned on technical grounds.

In Lahore, 335 cases of rape and 31 of gang rape were reported. Year 2017 witnessed terrifying hike in the cases of street crime. Due to inefficiency of police, criminals find Punjab conducive to crime, it alleged.
