The outbreak of a deadly virus, swine flu, in Karachi has raised concerns among residents. During the past three weeks, at least 38 patients have been confirmed of being infected by the virus. In Karachi, only one hospital has diagnostic facilities which can help detect the virus.
The authorities should declare national emergency and take relevant steps to fight the disease. Since swine flu is highly contagious, patients should wear surgical masks to prevent people around them from getting infected. Back in 1918, the deadly disease claimed the lives of tens of millions of people across the world. It is said, prevention is better than cure. The healthcare department should be more active and do everything it could to spread awareness among people to save them from contracting the disease.
