Teachers’ training institute opens at KU with US support

A teachers’ training centre was opened on Saturday at the University of Karachi with the collaboration of US Agency for International Development (USAID)
Sindh senior minister for Education Nisar Khuhro performed the inauguration along with United States Ambassador Richard G Olson.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said that the teacher’s education building is a state of art facility and the USA is helping Pakistan in improving standard of education by providing $45 million for construction of 17 buildings for the purpose at various universities across the country.
He said, “We are committed to improve the quality of teachers’ education and standard of basic education in Sindh and providing the best learning and work environment for the future teachers,” adding the newly-constructed building will serve our purpose for developing strong educational institutions.
Khuhro informed the audience that the education department has started a programme to give the trainings to teachers so that they can teach students in a better way.
He claimed that recruitments of teachers were being done only on merit basis through the National Testing Service and not a single teacher will be recruited without merit.
The education minister said four million children were going to schools in Sindh but the same number were out of school and asserted that “We are trying to enroll them as well.”
He disclosed around 2,000 schools lacking basic facilities were revamped within two years.
Khuhro said with the help and support of donors, political parties and public we will overcome challenges in education sector.
US Consul General Brain Heath, Vice Chancellor KU Professor D Muhammad Qaiser and others officials also attended the ceremony.
