Peshawar BISE awards excelling students
PESHAWAR: Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif said on Tuesday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government had spent Rs36 billion to provide basic missing facilities at schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at the ceremony arranged to distribute awards among the position holders of the annual examination of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar.
The minister said the schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lacked 2.1 million chairs. “The government provided 1.4 million chairs. It will overcome the shortage,” he said, adding PTI had achieved 80 to 90 percent of its targets in the education sector. Muhammad Atif said the government had directed boards not to establish examination halls at the schools which had failed to install cameras for online monitoring.
The minister said that boards would use optical mark recogniser. He said the government provided Rs100,000 each to 2500 schools for promotion of sports activities and established play areas at 11,000 schools. The minister added that 200 sports grounds had been developed in the province. Earlier, BISE Chairman Dr Fazlur Rehman enumerated the steps taken for improvement in the examination system. He said BISE was working on a plan to provide all facilities through online system. The BISE chairman maintained that steps had been taken to fully implement the government policy of zero tolerance towards unfair means in examination.
Student of the Frontier Youth Academy, Hayatabad, Alisha Gulalai Amjad, received gold medal in the science group. Peshawar Model School, Charsadda student, Aliza Gul, received silver medal and Maria Maqsood of the same school received bronze medal. Usmania Children Academy, Peshawar Cantonment, student, Abdul Basit, received gold medal in the Humanities Group.
Agriculture University Public School and College for Girls student, Nadia Khan, received silver medal while Forward Public School for Girls, Hayatabad, student, Mahnoor Khurshid, received bronze medal. The gold medalist in the in the Pre-Medial Group of the Higher Secondary School Certificate category was Paghunda Mayar of the Jinnah College for Women, University of Peshawar.
Syeda Batool Haider and Abida Khan of the same college shared the silver medal. Zainab Nawaz of the Jinnah College for Women Safina Tanveer of the Islamia College for Girls shared the bronze medal. The gold medalist in the pre-engineering group was Asad Sultan of the Islamia College Peshawar. Muhammad Shadman Khan of the same institution received silver medal. Shafaq Tauqeer of the Jinnah College for Women and Habibullah of the Islamia College Peshawar shared the bronze medal.
Government Girls Degree College Bacha Khan, Kohat Road, Aiman Ayub, received gold medal in the general science group. Jinnah College for Women student, Salma Noor, received silver medal and Mahnoor Javed of the same college received the bronze medal. Government Frontier College for Women, Peshawar, Shakeeba Altaf, was awarded gold medal in the humanities group. Jamia Usmania Peshawar Cantonment student, Zaman Ahmed, received the silver medal.
Uzma of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nishtarabad, received bronze medal. Samiullah of the Islamia College received gold medal in the theology group while a private candidate Khaista Rehman was awarded gold medal in the oriental languages category. Abid Ali of the Islamia College won gold medal for best athlete while Maryam Ghani of the Frontier College for Women received the same for best female athlete. Appreciation certificates were also distributed among the board employees. The board chairman presented a souvenir to the minister.
