McCormack double keeps City in the hunt
SYDNEY: Scottish striker Ross McCormack netted a double to keep Melbourne City in third place as Sydney FC maintained their eight-point lead in Australia´s A-League this weekend.
Teenager Daniel Arzani came off the substitutes´ bench to change City´s fortunes in a 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix in Melbourne on Saturday. Before the lively Arzani´s half-time intervention, Warren Joyce´s City were trailing to a Roy Krishna goal after 42 minutes. Defending champions Sydney needed a late equaliser from Brazilian striker Bobo to grab a 2-2 draw in their top-of-the-table encounter with the Newcastle Jets. Bobo´s goal maintained Sydney´s eight-point competition lead, but the Jets were good value, leading twice against the in-form Sky Blues.
The result extended Sydney´s unbeaten home record to 24 games, surpassing the mark set by Ange Postecoglou´s all-conquering Brisbane Roar side of 2010-11. Adelaide United are fourth following a 3-0 win over the Glory in Perth.
