KARACHI: A PSB committee has recommended increase in the prize money for players who win medals in IOC-recognised events, including World Cup, Olympics, Asian Games, Champions Trophy and Commonwealth Games, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The PSB sports subcommittee, which was nominated by ministry of IPC to review the rewards for successful Pakistani players in international events, took this decision in its last meeting held a few days back in Islamabad. Sources said that the committee has sent the proposal to ministry of IPC with the recommendation of at least doubling the prize money for winners of medals. The sources said that the winners of medals at SAARC, SAFF and Islamic Games would not get as much increase in prize money.
After the approval from the ministry, a meeting would be held to finalise the details in this respect.
Olympian Samiullah, chairman PSB subcommittee for rewards, confirmed that the committee had recommended to IPC ministry that raise in prize money had been recommended.
He also said that the winners of medals at SAARC, SAFF and Islamic Games would also get increased prize money — whether individuals or teams.
Sources said that the proposal would be sent to the federal government for implementation.
It has to be mentioned here that players of hockey team remain deprived of their prize money for winning medals at Asian Games, Champions Trophy and Asian Champion Trophy.
