Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, provincial Health Secretary Jawad Rafiq and Director General Health Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervez are due in town today (Saturday), to take briefing from top officials of health department in Rawalpindi division on improvement needed at primary and secondary public sector healthcare facilities.
The briefing that would be held at the Commissioner’s office would discuss indicators for improvement of healthcare facilities at primary and secondary level including basic health units, rural health centres, tehsil headquarters hospitals and district headquarters hospitals in four districts of Rawalpindi division namely Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum.
The briefing is being held in connection with the chief minister’s roadmap for health reforms in the province. The executive district officers (health) and district health officers of the four districts would brief the health advisor and his team on the existing condition of primary and secondary healthcare facilities and the measures needed to improve healthcare services in them in their respective districts.
At least four components including availability of staff, medicines, equipment and building in primary and secondary healthcare setups would be discussed in the briefing, said Executive District Officer (Health) Rawalpindi Dr. Khalid Randhawa while talking to ‘The News’ on Friday.
He said the EDOs and the DHOs would brief the CM’s advisor’s team on what is needed to be done at the BHUs, RHCs, THQs and DHQs to improve healthcare services for public while the advisor and his team would brief the health officials on steps being taken by the Punjab government to enhance quality of services in health sector under the CM’s roadmap for health reforms.
To a query, he said the standard of services in primary and secondary healthcare facilities in the district is improving at a tremendous pace however; much more is needed to further facilitate public in health sector.
