KARACHI: An accountability court on Thursday adjourned the hearing against former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain and other co-accused involved in Rs462 billion corruption reference, till January 15.
Earlier the court was informed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor that the prosecution witnesses was seriously ill and could not appear before the court. The court granted time and fixed January 15 to record the statement of the witness. Dr Asim Hussain and other accused are already on bail in this reference.
While talking to the journalists, Dr Asim Hussain said t the government should disallow former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif from visiting abroad. He said he was very worried about the fate of the country as Nawaz Sharif and his companions are hatching conspiracies against the integrity of the country. He said the frequent visits of Nawaz Sharif and other family members must be stopped. He remarked that Nawaz Sharif now has become an ‘international don’, saying his actions and threatening tone were evident.
In reply to a question, Dr Asim said he is quite unhappy over the present political circumstances of the country. He further said that he was quite upset due to the negative politics of the disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his companions.
Dr. Asim Hussain, a close aide of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, former petroleum and natural resources secretary Ejaz Chaudhry, Karachi Docks Labour Board’s former CEO Safdar Hussain, KDA’s ex-directors Syed Athar Hussain, Masood Haider Jaffery, and Ziauddin group finance director Abdul Hameed are facing this corruption reference.
