Whites down Reds in Friends of Golf tourney
LAHORE: The Friends of Golf (FOG) Team Competition was a contest between the 26- member Team Whites, captained by Shoaib Shams and the 26-member Palmers Team Reds, captained by Faisal Sayid, at the par 72 Royal Palm Golf Course.
Format of this competitive event was Match Play and in golf , match play battles are enriched in excitement and provide an opportunity to double digit handicappers to give an impressive account of their playing skills even when they are up against single digit handicappers who are seasoned and capable of mighty performances when such a fight is on the cards. And in this Friends of Golf Event held yesterday at the challenging Royal Palm Golf Course,the team White consisting of 26 team members combined exceedingly well to put up an energetic display and thereby succeed in curbing the energy and effort of the Reds combination and through a quality effort accumulated 29.5 points as against 22.5 points compiled by Reds. For the Whites Team, the pairings of Asim Tiwana and Khurram Hussain, Tariq Pervaiz and Anjum Atta Sheikh, Ahmed Baksh Tarrar and Asim Basra, Hassan Hamid and Saeed ul Haseeb,Abdul Islam Nazir and Hamid Sharif ,Shahid Abbas and Asad Agha attained ascendancy over their adversaries to fetch two points each for their team and help them to lunge ahead in the race for honours.
This effort was supported by other team members too who won their singles matches to add vital winning points to the total.These performers were Khurram Hussain,Tariq Pervaiz , Sohail Chaudry,Ahmed Buksh Tarrar, Hassan Hamid,Saeed ul Haseeb,Hamid Sharif,Abdullah Sharif,Nisar Zaman,Dr Mohsen Anwer ,Shahid Abbas,Asad Agha,Hussain Hamid and Shoaib Shams. The combination playing under the banner of Team Reds lost the contest in the ultimate reckoning but they had their good moments too as the pairings of Nauman Razzaq and Rana Imran,Dr Tashbeeb and Max Babri,Waqar Butt and Munawar Aftab,Col Jameel Khalid and Lt Gen(r)M.Tariq and Faisal Iqbal and Sharjeel Awan had a decisive edge over their opposing pairs and showed their superior capabilities and that was a consoling aspect to their overall effort. At the conclusion of the competition , Abdullah Sharif gave away the prizes.
