Traffic mess at Murree Road
Rawalpindi: Absence of underpasses at Liaquat Bagh and Mareer Chowk are the major reasons of routine traffic jam on Murree Road. A U-turn near Naz Cinema besides wrong parking between Committee Chowk and Chandni Chowk is also a hurdle in smooth flow of traffic on the road.
Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Traffic Engineering and Planning Assistant (TEPA) Rana Tariq Javed Khan told ‘The News’ that RDA and NESPAK are working on construction of an underpass at Liaquat Bagh, but the underground pilings of metro track pillars do not allow them to construct the same neither there is any space to built an underpass at Marreer Chowk or Liaquat Bagh.”
In this regard, two months before the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) officials conducted a survey of Murree Road to ease traffic flow particularly from Mareer Chowk to Chandni Chowk and final report of the survey is awaited for taking any further action to improve smooth flow of traffic,” he said.
But decision will be taken after receiving final report from NESPAK in this regard, he said. Talking to ‘The News’ motorists said that they could not find out ways to approach their destinations on proper time as all roads included Murree Road, Rawal Road and even Airport Road remain jam packed with bumper to bumper traffic rush.
