‘PM to lay foundation stone for first Centre-funded university in Hyderabad’
Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair has said that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would soon visit Hyderabad to lay the foundation stone for the first federally funded public university in the province’s second largest city.
Zubair stated this on Friday as he chaired a meeting at the Governor House to review the progress on mega development projects being built in Hyderabad under the prime minister’s development package. The Hyderabad mayor and the deputy commissioner attended the meeting which featured discussions on progress of projects related to health insurance cards, airport, and other infrastructure works being carried out there.
The governor said on the occasion that the construction work of a general university in Hyderabad would be highly helpful for youths of the city and its adjoining areas in their pursuit to get higher education and research in different fields of studies.
He said the varsity’s establishment in Hyderabad matched very much with the historical status of the city and was also required to sufficiently fulfill the higher education and general academic requirements of its residents.
He said once the university was established in Hyderabad, the federal government would continue providing support to it in its endeavours to promote the prospects of higher education to youths of the city.
The governor said the development projects conceived adopted in the year 2007 in accordance with the master plan of the Hyderabad city had to be given preference for their completion so the city could be developed in a planned and scientific manner, keeping in view the civic needs of its residents.
He emphasised that the development projects should be completed in time and that too through a transparent process. “Alternative routes for the movement of vehicular traffic should be properly designated to facilitate motorists before launching of the major development works in the city.”
The governor said the present government had been working under its vision to develop every part of the country on a uniform basis. “In this regard, several development projects were being completed in different districts of the province under the special development package of the prime minister.”
He said the federal government was also spending a total of Rs75 billion on different development projects in Karachi. The governor said the governments could only win over hearts and minds of people by ensuring public service to the maximum possible extent. “The present government has been extensively engaged in public service in view of the principles of democratic governance so to fulfil basic needs of the people without any discrimination.”
He said the people of Hyderabad would get relief with completion of the mega development projects being carried out with the federal government’s support as they would be helpful in overcoming decades-old problems of the people of the city and also in phenomenally raising their living standard.
