SHC moved against detention of KU student
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers, Sindh Inspector General of Police and Rangers on a petition against illegal detention of a student by law enforcement agencies’ personnel.
The family of University of Karachi student, Sagheer Ahmed Baloch, submitted in the petition that Sagheer was picked up from the university by law enforcement agencies’ personnel on November 20, and his whereabouts since remain unknown.
Their counsel maintained that neither the police was disclosing the detainee’s whereabouts, nor has he been produced before any court of the law. He said the local police did not register the complaint against Sagheer Ahmed’s kidnapping, rather was harassing his family members. The court was requested to order production of the detainee and release, if not required in any cases.
The court also directed the law enforcement agencies to produce the detainee in court by January 4, if he is in their custody, and release him if not wanted in any criminal cases. The court also directed SSP East to provide protection to the family members of the detainee.
