PESHAWAR: A senior Pakistani militant commander, Maulana Jan Wali aka Sheena, was killed in Afghanistan's Kunar province on Wednesday, sources told The News. According to sources, commander Sheena belonged to Bajaur tribal region and was associated with the proscribed militant organisation, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

"Jan Wali alias Sheena was a dangerous terrorist affiliated with the TTP," said a Pakistani official on condition of anonymity. There was no information about the circumstances in which commander Sheena was killed, except that unknown people shot him dead in Afghanistan's Kunar province near the border with Pakistan's Bajaur and Mohmand tribal regions. The Pakistani security authorities said the militant commander was involved in multiple acts of terrorism and wanted in various cases.

He started his militant activities from his native Bajaur tribal region under the leadership of commander Faqir Mohammad but later fled to Afghanistan and settled in the Kunar province when Pakistani security forces launched an offensive against them in Bajaur on August 6, 2008.

Like him, majority of the militants escaped from Bajaur tribal region and settled

in neighbouring areas of Afghanistan.
