PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday allowed Senator Haji Ghulam Ali to contest Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Presidential Election, scheduled on December 29 at the Federation House, Karachi.

Spokesperson of Businessmen Panel (BMP), Ahmad Jawad said the honourable court suspended the order of Director General Trade Organization (DGTO) and allowed Haji Ghulam Ali to contest the FPCCI elections.

“The decision has proved that our opponent group UBG misled the FPCCI voters and business community during the last three days and showed them false and fabricated justifications,” he added.

The spokesperson also negated the stance of the opponent group of electing the VP from Punjab unopposed, he clarified that the IHC has dismissed the other party’s petition and termed it without merit.

Sheikh Bashart Nadeem from the Sahiwal Chamber of Commerce has been nominated as EC member of the FPCCI in 2018 as well as BMP Vice President Candidate for Punjab Chamber Class in the upcoming election.

Jawad said all the chambers of commerce in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and majority trade associations from Punjab and Sindh have reposed confidence in the policies of the BMP.

He said under the vision of BMP Chairman Mian Anjum Nisar, the panel has fielded strong candidates enjoying the highest degree of integrity, coupled with spirit of devotion and service for the promotion of trade in the country.

“Our nationwide campaign has entered into its final stage and we have planned a special meeting of all voters and supporters in Karachi at Avari Towers on December 28, to show BMP strength,” the spokesperson added.

He said the support of the maximum chambers in the country showed disappointment over UBG’s work, including with the FPCCI’s incumbent president who has been facing NAB references since he assumed his office.

The spokesperson of the group said close working relationship between the government and the business community would not only solve issues faced by trade and industry, but was vital to economic revival.
