Drug abuse has become rampant in Karachi and stands the risk of decimating the future of the city’s youth. Around two million young people in Karachi engage in the abusive and problematic use of illicit drugs. These drugs are being supplied with relative ease because people know that they can get away with it. More often than not, if the police arrests people for selling drugs, they usually set them free after a cursory interrogation or warning.
In order to tackle this problem in an effective manner, we need to introduce suitable mechanisms to quell the sale of drugs. The relevant authorities must stop drugs from being smuggled into Karachi. This will protect the youth and prevent their spiralling descent into an abyss.
