Aviation sector all set to be revamped

KARACHI: Government formulated a comprehensive strategy to cope with the modern era’s challenges posed to the aviation sector due to the continuous growth in air traffic, a senior official said on Thursday.

“The principle decision has been taken to review and redefine the aviation policy and to restructure the civil aviation authority… (and) to upgrade the performance of airlines as per the requirements of contemporary markets and customers,” Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Mehtab Khan said, addressing a meeting.

Khan directed the officials to present a report after the consultation with all the airlines. “All-out efforts have been made to provide the best available facilities to the passengers,” he said.

The PM advisor also directed the officials to immediately establish a ‘grievance redressal forum’ and conduct the training programs to enhance the capacity to meet business objective and goals.

“He further directed (the officials) to upgrade the airports and associated infrastructure with latest technology available in the world, adding that implementation of best industry practices should be ensured,” a statement said.

Khan also directed the officials to provide all possible facilities to all airports particularly Karachi Airport and to ensure the uninterrupted water supply. He directed the Civil Aviation Authority to hire a world class consultant to propose recommendations for organisational transformation on modern lines.

The advisor said the purpose to initiate the organisational transformation process in the Civil Aviation Authority is to transform itself into one of the leading aviation organisations in the world and to implement international best practices of industry. The advisor directed officials to focus on enhancing the organisational capabilities.

“Pakistan is heading towards prosperity and economic stability and in view of the market potential the air traffic will further grow and we will face the challenges to aviation sector in terms of safety, security, efficiency, capacity and environment,” he said. “These practices should be adopted not only to upgrade the quality but also improve the services.”
