‘Rid Karachi of weapons, private militias once and for all’
KARACHI: Prominent civil society activists at a seminar on Sunday demanded complete deweaponisation of Karachi to rid the city that serves as an economic hub of the country of recurrent violence.
Organised by a group working for peace and deweaponisation, Citizens Against Weapons, the seminar was held at the PMA House; it was attended by concerned citizens from all walks of life and supporters of the cause.
The speakers included former information minister Javed Jabbar, veteran journalist Zubeida Mustafa, classical dancer and founder Tehreek-e-Niswan Sheema Kermnai, executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Dr Seemin Jamali, former chief of Citizen Police
Liaison Committee Nazim F Haji, and secretary general of Pakistan Medical Association Dr Mirza Azhar Ali.
