CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao said on Saturday that people and not courts should decide the fate of politicians whether or not they were eligible to be elected as public representatives.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating gas supply to Tarnab here, he said he was not happy about the decision of disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf general secretary Jehangir Tareen in the assets case.

He said that he was concerned about the prevailing political situation in the country. He said that political parties were pulling each other legs and wrangling among rival political parties was at its peak.

Aftab Sherpao said in a democratic society people decided the fate of politicians by voting in one’s favour or against.

He said that PTI chief Imran Khan should have expressed solidarity with Jehangir Tareen but instead he (Imran) celebrated his own exoneration from the charges by eating sweets.

The nationalist politician criticised the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, saying the change the party brought in the province can only be seen on social media as there was no change on the ground.

“The people cannot feel any change,” he added.

He said only a strong parliament can solve the people and country problems. “That is way it is necessary for the parliament to complete its constitutional tenure,” he added.

He said that QWP did not support the call for early elections. “Those who are demanding early polls are in a hurry to become prime minister at any cost,” he added in reference to PTI chief Imran Khan.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa got additional five seats of National Assembly after the census which also meant that the province would get more resources as well. He hoped that the Upper House of Parliament would pass the Electoral Reforms Bill on December 19 as the differences over the delimitation bill had been resolved.
