Over a million of tonnes of garbage accumulates on a daily basis in Karachi. Unfortunately, the city government has not introduced a suitable system to recycle garbage. Trash has been collected from various parts of the city and dumped them in different sites where heaps of garbage are eventually set ablaze. This occurs in Punjab Colony, Akhtar Colony and Manzoor Colony, among other localities.
Such practices have culminated in various diseases like asthma, eye infections and lungs problems. In addition, the risk of environmental hazards has also increased. Garbage dumps near Clifton pose a danger for marine life. Civic agencies must take action to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the people.
