KARACHI: Pakistan bagged two more bronze medals late Friday night to finish their Greco Roman style competitions with six bronze in connection with the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Emerging youngster Ghulam Ghaus (70kg) and Ahmed Butt (125kg) also bagged bronze to wrap-up Pakistan’s journey on an impressive note.
Pakistan are not among the best of nations in this style of wrestling. Their real strength lies in freestyle competitions which will be held on Sunday (today).
The weigh-in for the slots had started when this story was filed.
Mohammad Bilal (57kg), Abdul Wahab (61kg), Mudassir Hussain (65kg) and Umair Ahmed (86kg) are the others who have claimed bronze.
Pakistan Wrestling Federation’s (PWF) secretary Arshad Sattar was hopeful of a fine performance from his grapplers in freestyle wrestling.
“Freestyle is our real strength and I hope tomorrow we will win gold medals,” Arshad told ‘The News’.
“Mohammad Inam has sure gold, while Mohammad Bilal, Umair and rookie Ghaus also have the potential to produce top performance,” Arshad added.
In Greco Roman style, eight grapplers represented Pakistan, while in freestyle nine will be taking part.
