A week after imposing a ban on one-wheeling and racing motorbikes, the Sindh government on Friday imposed a six-month ban on racing four-wheelers in Karachi and Thatta.

The notification to this effect was issued by the provincial home secretary. The ban came two weeks after a teenager was killed and another injured, on December 3, following a road rage incident that occurred near an unofficial racing track in DHA.

The home secretary’s notification states that an increasing tendency in youngsters to resort to over-speeding, racing of motorcars, jeeps on public streets, roads and highways has been observed which has resulted in loss of lives and property and quarrels.

The Sindh government believed that in order to avoid such incidents, immediate measures were needed to be taken, maintained the notice. It further read that, “Now therefore, the Government of Sindh in exercise of powers conferred under Section 144(6) of the CrPC, hereby imposes a complete ban on over-speeding/racing of motor cars/jeeps in the territorial limits of Karachi Division and District Thatta for a period of six months with immediate effect.

In pursuance of Section 195(1)(a), SHOs of the concerned police stations are, hereby authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the PPC in writing, for the violation of Section 144 CrPC against the violators of this order.”
