BAHAWALPUR: Scores of residents of walled city on Thursday staged demonstration against closure of gas in chilly weather. Protesters first demonstrated outside the Bahawalpur Municipal Corporation and later reached outside the SNGPL regional office. They raised slogans against closure of gas for domestic users and demanded its immediate restoration.
TWO SISTERS INJURED: Two minor sisters were injured at Mehboob Colony, Chishtian. Wife of M Naeem lit a gas cylinder for cooking but later gas started leaking from it. Fire engulfed the entire house. As a result, one-year-old Esha Maryam and three-year-old Khadija Maryam were fatally injured. The fire also burnt appliances worth thousands of rupees to ashes, including the dowry of daughter of victim’s family whose wedding was due in a month. Poor labourer Naeem told the mediamen that had the firefighters reached timely, the loss would have been minimised.
