LAHORE: A petition was moved to the Lahore High Court on Wednesday against Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over issuing de-notification of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
A local citizen, Ghulam Yasin, moved the petition through Advocate AK Dogar and made federal government, Election Commission of Pakistan, Speaker National Assembly and Nawaz Sharif as respondents in his petition. The petitioner stated that on July 28, the ECP de-notified Nawaz Sharif which was illegal and unlawful as the prime minister can only be removed through the parliament.
He pointed out that no-confidence motion is the only way under Article 95 A of the Constitution for removal of the prime minister. Nawaz Sharif was elected through the votes and thus his de-notification was unconstitutional. He asked the court to set aside the notification issued against Nawaz Sharif and be suspended till decision on the petition.
