Economic empowerment policies for women urged
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Wednesday urged the government to introduce economic empowerment policies for women.
ICCI President Shaikh Amir Waheed said that women are over half of Pakistan’s total population, adding that advanced countries have achieved rapid economic growth by focusing on women empowerment.
He urged the government to make such policies through which women could be brought in the mainstream economy so that they could play more effective role in the country’s development. Addressing a 25-member delegation of women that visited the ICCI led by Sadaf Raza, director of Ideas for Life Trust (IFLT), Waheed apprised the delegation about the initiatives of ICCI focused on the promotion of women entrepreneurs.
The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has established a women growth centre to provide guidance and to facilitate aspiring women entrepreneurs in business startups, he added.
