ITU to set up innovative lab

LAHORE: The Information Technology University (ITU) founding Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif on Tuesday said the university would establish an innovative lab on its main campus.

He said this while chairing the 7th meeting of ITU syndicate. The meeting was informed that ITU has acquired ‘W’ category ranking from the National Computing Accreditation Council and an endorsement from the HEC.

The meeting also discussed the details regarding first convocation, scheduled on Dec 17, of the graduate batch which was enrolled in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science programmes.

The matters pertaining to the institutionalising of the Lahore Technology Award and sources for research funding also came under discussion. ITU Registrar Zaheer Sarwar and the syndicate members attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, according to a press release, a talk on book “Interpreting Islam, Modernity, and Women’s Rights in Pakistan” by Prof Anita M. Weiss of the University of Oregon, USA was organised at ITU.

Inter boards meeting: A two-day annual meeting of Inter Boards Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) will begin at a local hotel from Wednesday (today). The chairmen of educational boards and boards of technical education as well as the textbook boards from across the country will participate in the meeting. They will discuss different issues including bringing further improvement in the examination system. Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani will preside over the inaugural session.

Review course: The Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab called upon young doctors to get modern training in all medical fields and keep their knowledge up-to-date.

He was addressing the 4th “Intensive Review Course for Orthopedic Department” on Tuesday here at Lahore General Hospital (LGH). Under training doctors of FCPS and MS across the country attended the event.

Prof Irfan Mehboob, Prof M.A. Wajid and Prof Faisal Nazeer delivered lectures on orthopedic and its technical aspects. The principal said such courses provide an opportunity to junior doctors to learn from the experience of the seniors which would be beneficial for their professional career.
