KARACHI: Hyderabad Veterans and Mirpurkhas Veterans registered comprehensive victories in the latest round of the 17th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2015.
Hyderabad whipped Jamshoro by nine wickets at the Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, while Mirpurkhas overwhelmed Sanghar by seven wickets at the same venue.
Batting first after winning the toss, Jamshoro were bowled out for 98 by Hyderabad in 20.1 overs with Ghulam Ali (25 off 25 balls), Sadiq Baloch (24 off 28 balls) and Mohammad Farhan (16 off 30 balls) reaching double figures as the bowling honours were shared between off-spinner Mohammad Sabir (2-5) and medium-pacers Ahmed Ali (2-20) and Ishaq Shah (2-25).
Hyderabad opener Mahmood Ali remained undefeated on 57 off 31 balls and was adjudged Man of the Match. His partner Munawwar Jafri scored 33 off 18 balls in the 81-run opening stand as the winning runs came in a matter of nine overs only.
Sanghar were routed for 97 in 22.1 overs by Mirpurkhas. Wakeel Ahmed (21 off 25 balls) and Nasir Memon (19 off 21 balls) were the only batsmen to cope with fine bowling from Abdul Rahim, who captured five wickets for 16 runs in five overs.
Mirpurkhas lost only three wickets before reaching the modest target in 18.2 overs. Opener Anwar-ul-Haq scored 23 off 21 balls but the Man of the Match award was clinched by his teammate Abdul Rahim for his five-wicket haul.
