KARACHI: Infrastructure developments in Karachi will be the government's priority under the Rs25 billion package for the city announced by the Prime Minister, Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair said on Monday.
Zubair said international community should review travel advisories as the law and order situation has improved in Pakistan. In August, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, following his first official visit to Karachi, announced a Rs25 billion development package for the metropolis and a Rs5bn package for Hyderabad during the current fiscal year.
“Pakistan is a huge market and no international company can ignore this market,” Zubair said, addressing the 16th CEO Summit Asia and Leadership Award Ceremony. The CEO Summit and book launch of ‘100 Performing CEOs, Leaders and Companies of Pakistan 2017’ was organised by CEO Club Pakistan and CEO Today Magazine at a local hotel.
Sindh governor said the security situation had improved and presence of CEOs from Asian countries in Karachi was a testimony to that. “Karachi is an important city for this region in terms of trade and commercial activities.”
He said Pakistan had done a lot against terrorism and the international community should acknowledge such efforts.
Zubair said only the democratic process could guarantee sustainable economic growth. “The present government has five more months to complete its tenure,” he said, and added that sit-ins and protests were only to destabilise the ongoing process.
He said a neutral caretaker should be nominated for fair elections. “We should have a neutral set up under the democratic process.
