NA Secretariat hasn’t received any resignations

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Secretariat hasn’t received resignation of any members of the House till late Sunday evening.

Parliamentary sources told The News that none of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member has intimated about his or her stepping down from the membership verbally (Through phone) or in black and white.

The sources reminded that the National Assembly is in session, and if any member intends to resign from the House, he or she could appear in the House and tender his or her resignation that would be accepted immediately like that of Javed Hashmi, who tendered his resignation in 2014 during the sit-in of the PTI, and it was accepted by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the same day, while other members of the PTI, including Imran Khan, who also tendered their resignations stayed away and later had a deal with the government.

Maulana Fazalur Rehman, leader of the JUI, had later challenged the membership of the PTI members who tendered resignations but again joined the House when their sit-in failed.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly will be in session till December 19, and if any member who doesn’t come forward for offering his or her resignation till then, will have to tender the same and

then appear before the Speaker for confirmation individually.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could easily conduct by-elections on any seats from where sitting member resigns/disqualified or die before March next year since the mandated period of the government would be left by then more than 90 days which is required for holding the polls.
