The carnage in Peshawar

December 03, 2017
Friday (Dec 1) witnessed another deadly attack in a university of Peshawar. At least three burqa-clad men entered the hostel of the Directorate of Agricultural Institute and opened fire. Although the local police and the army took prompt action and killed all the three terrorists, the attackers managed to take the lives of six students, two civilians, and the institute’s gatekeeper and left around 35 people injured.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has taken the responsibility for the attack which was carried out on the auspicious day of Eid Miladun Nabi – celebrated on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal with religious fervour to mark the birthday of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). Although the security was made fool proof since Thursday evening, terrorists still managed to enter the hostel. Innocent students were killed because of heinous activities of the terrorist group. The entire nation strongly condemns the sad incident.

The sudden rise in terror attacks in Peshawar has disrupted the lives of citizens. The attack at an agricultural college is not the first attack on an education institution. In 2014, a terrorist attack at Peshawar’s Army Public School killed more than 100 students.
Due to lack of security measures, such attacks are gaining momentum. The government must take steps to combat terrorism.

It is heartrending to talk about the Peshawar attack. Once again, innocent students were attacked and once again an education institution was washed with blood. At least nine people were martyred and more than 30 injured after three terrorists stormed the campus of the university. Since it was a holiday, a majority of students had gone home for a long weekend.
It is still not late. The government can take measures to combat terrorism and ensure that these attacks are not carried out again. If immediate action is not taken, the situation will get even worse for us.

After a gap of one week, Peshawar again became the victim of terrorism. Last week, three police officials, including Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ashraf Noor were martyred in a suicide blast in the area of Hayatabad.
This week on Friday morning, three terrorists attacked a university. That such a heinous attack will be carried out on the day on which the birthday of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) is observed is shocking. Which religion do these attackers follow?
