LAHORE: Thousands of passengers could not reach their destinations due to suspension of transport service across the country.
All Pakistan Transport Owners Federation (APTOF) suspended the bus service because of blockade of roads by Tehreek-e-Labbaik activists. They said they would continue strike until punishment awarded to the persons responsible for amendment to Khatam-e-Nabuwwat laws.
Muhammad Ali at Lorri Adda while talking to The News said he wanted to go to Multan but he could not find a ticket from a private bus service, he reached Lorri Adda to find a ticket, but he could not get it as the bus service was also suspended there. He said his father was in hospital in Multan, and he wanted to reach there to see him.
The bus service will be suspended as long as the protests continue, said Azam Khan while talking to The News. He said no bus was leaving from Lahore to Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Rahimyar Khan, etc.
The bus owners are facing huge financial loss because of the protests, he said, adding the government should tackle the situation wisely. Unfortunately, a handful of people have paralysed the country because of the mismanagement of the government.
According to him, bus owners could bear the loss, but drivers, mechanics, and conductors are deprived of livelihood. Faizoo, a conductor of a bus, while talking to The News said: “He earns Rs400 per turn from Lahore to Sadiqabad. If the situation remains the same, his family will suffer.” He said his son is suffering from malnutrition.
The situation at railway stations was not different than road transports. Lahore to Sahiwal, Karachi sections of Pakistan Railways are operating as usual while Lahore to Narowal, Lalamusa, Faisalabad and Sheikhupura sections are completely suspended.
