ISLAMABAD/ HAFIZABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said he is ready to go to any police station for investigation, and he is appearing before the courts of law so that institutions are strengthened in the country.
Talking to the media after appearing before an anti-terrorism court, he said: “We want the institutions to be strengthened. In contrast, Nawaz Sharif is destabilising them.” He said Nawaz Sharif’s ideology is nothing but corruption. "Nawaz says that he is the name of an ideology. But his ideology is nothing but corruption," added Imran.
The PTI chief asked people to stop comparing him with his political rival, Nawaz Sharif. “Don’t compare me with Nawaz. My comparison with him is like comparing me with Sultana Daku,” he said. “Nawaz should tell how his financial assets were shifted abroad. The court gave Nawaz Sharif full opportunity to account for the money he transferred abroad; however, he had no answer.” He also demanded the former premier provide details of his 29 properties abroad worth Rs300 billion.
"Nawaz Sharif did nothing to stop Ishaq Dar or Khwaja Asif from committing corruption," he added. "We will provide more proofs against Kh Asif's corruption in the coming days," he said. He said that political people were being accused of terrorism. He said the former premier was attacking the institutions to save his ill-gotten wealth. Khan recalled that when the Supreme Court had issued directives against former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Nawaz had said that the court’s decision should be respected.
Imran regretted that a terrorism case was framed against him over political protest. “My sit-in was political, as it was carried out to raise the issue of rigging held in the 2013 elections,” he added.
Imran said terrorism cases against politicians would harm the democratic institutions in the country. He said the federal government was making all attempts to silence his voice after viewing the PTI protests as terrorism.
Deploring the terrorism cases on political activists, he said 60 documents were submitted to the court in PTV attack case filed against him and other PTI workers. “If a single document is found misleading or incorrect, I would quit politics,” he added.
Later in the evening, addressing a public rally in Hafizabad, the PTI chief said he was the only Pakistani after Quaid-e-Azam who brought home his money that was earned abroad. He also censured the lawmakers who aborted the opposition attempt at the floor of National Assembly against a legislation allowing a disqualified person to lead a political party.
He said the PMl-N government has appointed its own man in the IB. It is unfortunate that Pakistan is facing loot and plunder by Nawaz and Zardari, PPP Co-chairman. He lashed out at PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and said that he and other ministers were supporting an accused, who was facing trial in several corruption cases. Nawaz Sharif is attacking Pakistan’s judiciary and army but the PTI wants to strengthen the departments, he added. "How can a country make progress where all the rulers are corrupt? This is why we all need to prepare and fight this corruption mafia.
"Corruption is the abuse of power," he said, adding that people in power should not be allowed to favour themselves. Rulers have been fleecing money from the people of Pakistan, Imran said. "This money should be spent on the people."
Pakistan has two main problems: unemployment and inflation, both of which are a product of rampant corruption in the country, added Imran. The menace of unemployment is affecting the youth of the country, he said adding that the youth are on the lookout for better employment opportunities.
He appreciated Chaudhry Mehdi Hassan Bhatti, ex-MNA/MPA, who was disqualified in a fake degree case, and his son Chaudhry Shaukat Ali Bhatti, General Secretary, Central Punjab, PTI, for arranging a big gathering and their due role in the PTI sit-ins in Islamabad. While addressing the rally, Awami Muslim League head Sheikh Rasheed reiterated his claims that Imran Khan wanted to help the people. Earlier, the PTI chief, accompanied by senior party leaders including Shafqat Mahmood, Aleem Khan and Awami Muslim League head Sheikh Rasheed, reached the rally’s site.
