Corporal punishment

All over the world the developed countries do not allow the teacher to punish the students. Psychologists believe that beating a student in the class severely injures the self respect of the student. So corporal punishment suppresses student’s personality and stunts his mental growth. Keeping in view the bad effects of corporal punishment and to avert corporal punishment at government education institutes, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elementary and secondary education department has decided to establish a transparent complaint cell to deal with the cases of corporal punishment in the province’s public schools. The body will take immediate action against those who were found guilty of severe corporal punishment anywhere.
Although the official ban on corporal punishment is a positive step, some teachers still oppose the ban over the pretext that the ban has taken away the powers of a teacher to discipline a child. Such bans, however, do not intend to deprive the teachers of their respect and status. These steps are taken to ensure a healthy learning environment so that students do not think of dropping out of the school. The gap between teacher and students badly affects the learning process since students feel hesitant while asking questions. So the official ban on corporal punishment in schools will create an atmosphere of friendly relationship between a teacher and students.
