LAHORE: A large number of Punjab University teachers took out a rally on Tuesday against Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) and expressed concern for not arresting its activists allegedly involved in torturing lecturer Nadeem Shad.
The rally organised by the PU Academic Staff Association (PUASA) started from the Undergraduate Block and culminated at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) New Campus. The rally demanded the arrest of the IJT activists nominated in the FIR.
Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Dr Hafiz Muhammad Rafiq, Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Dr Faheem Aftab, Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Noshina Saleem, Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, Sonia Omer, Nadeem Shad and a large number of teachers participated in the rally.
Talking to the media, Dr Shazia Qureshi called upon the Punjab government and the police to take notice of the incident. She said it was the responsibility of the law-enforcement agencies to control violent elements.
