Travelling in the city

November 18, 2017
A proper transportation system in Karachi has now become a necessity. People who travel in buses are around 45 percent of the city’s total population. Some hire Rickshaws and taxis to have a comfortable journey. But these modes of transportation are a bit expensive and a majority would prefer a proper transportation system over anything else. The biggest city of Pakistan has only 6,000 buses. How can the government assume that this insufficient amount is enough to meet the daily demand of the 45 percent of the city’s population?
The Orange Line project launched by the federal government will help tackle the current traffic problem. The bus route for this project begins from Nazimabad and goes all the way to Tower via M A Jinnah Road. While this is a positive initiative, the concerned authorities must realise that Karachi is a huge city and one route cannot help ease its traffic problems. Similar projects should be started to deal with the problem.
