TOBA TEK SINGH: People staged a demonstration against the murder of a 70-year-old man here on Monday.
The protesters blocked rail and road traffic for about two hours by placing the body of M Ishaq on a railway track. They were demanding registration of a murder case and arrest of the accused. Due to the protest, a non-stop train remained stopped for more than an hour. Talking to newsmen, the protesters said that Ishaq was stoned to death over a minor issue by four members of a family but the doctors with the connivance of the accused allegedly issued a medico legal certificate, showing that he had died of heart attack.
In the meantime, police officials reached there and held talks with the protesters. On assurance of justice, they ended their protest. Meanwhile, City police have registered a murder case against Faiz, his wife Nasreen, daughter Humaira and son Shan. Police are conducting raids to arrest them.
STUDENTS STAGE DEMO: Students of the Government Women College on Monday staged a demonstration and boycotted the classes against the transfer of Principal Perveen Arshad.
They were demanding cancellation of her transfer order. They said that the principal had made great efforts to upgrade the teaching system of the college and this was the first time that its students got positions in intermediate, BA and MA examinations. They vowed to continue the protest till the cancellation of the transfer order.
