LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday accepted a petition for hearing filed against the amendment made in the law that enabled ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to lead the party again.
LHC Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah also issued notices to the federal government and the law minister and adjourned the hearing till December 4. The petition was filed by former Supreme Court Bar Association Aftab Bajwa, challenging the changes introduced through electoral reforms.
Azhar Siddique, counsel for the petitioner, in his arguments said the PML-N government introduced the amendment after the Supreme Court disqualified the former prime minister. No law could be amended to benefit some specific person and the move was against the Constitution, he added, praying the court declare the amendment ultra vires.
