2m biodegradable bagsto be distributed on Eid
LAHORE: Collection and disposal of animal waste on Eidul Azha is one of the biggest challenges for Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) for which it will distribute two million biodegradable bags among citizens.
This was stated by LWMC Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed while addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Thursday. He said a large quantity of animal waste is produced across the city at Eid-ul-Azha for which extraordinary arrangements have to be made.
He maintained that the whole staff of 14,000 employees of the company including top management will be in field for proper implementation of Lahore Waste Management Company Eid plan during Eid days.
“These efforts can result in an even better and effective outcome if the residents of Lahore start lending a helping hand to the workers by ensuring use of provided waste bags,” he said.
Lahore Waste Management Company MD stated the LWMC sanitation arrangements are already intact (Pre Eid) in as many as seven major animal markets across the city where a total of 170 workers along with machinery and necessary gadgets have been deployed by setting up sanitation & awareness camps which are raising awareness among animal buyers and sellers.
LWMC is also reaching out schools in every town and markets to raise awareness regarding Eidul Azha. Further arrangements such as ZERO Waste operation will be conducted on Chand Raat in which Lahore Waste Management Company will use all its resources to collect entire waste from Lahore, further establishment of 274 sanitation camps in 274 union councils of Lahore with additional machinery, pickups, as well as establishment of 116 temporary waste collection and transfer stations covering animal waste of private housing societies will be completed two days before Eid.
Awareness material along with 2 million customised biodegradable waste bags will be made available at all Union Council (UC) camps, major mosques, and stores before and during Eid.
Eighteen model camps will also be part of this plan which will offer same services like UC camps in the city and will help coordinate sanitation operations.
Lahore Waste Management Company will be clearing municipal solid waste from all the graveyards of the city, MD LWMC also stated that we are going to use SMS service to sensitize public on EID days; additional staff is deployed on Lahore Waste Management Company helpline to serve maximum number of complaints by the public.
General Manager Operations, LWMC, Asif Iqbal said that deputy mayors, UCs Chairmen and other elected representatives will also be engaged in operational and awareness activities to make them effective and result oriented.
The MD briefed that last year LWMC with help of the media, public, civil society collected and safely transported nearly 30,000 tons of waste in three days of Eid and this year the tonnage is expected to rise.
He shared that Lahore Waste Management Company will be disposing of all waste in a scientific manner that its repercussions will not be affecting anyone.
LWMC will conduct exclusive operation cleanup in all cattle markets in addition to this special washing and sweeping operation of collective slaughter centres, major mosques will be part our post Eid operation. It was announced by the MD that this year famous Film and TV star Afzal Khan (Jan Rambo) will also participate with LWMC during Eidul Azha.
