The Pakistan Air Force on Tuesday announced a decision to name the under-construction Fazaia Medical College at PAF Base Faisal after eminent humanitarian Dr Ruth Pfau, who passed away in the city on August 10.
A PAF spokesman said the decision had been taken on the directives of Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman. In a special message, the PAF chief lauded the selfless humanitarian’s services and said she would always be remembered with reverence and respect.
He termed Dr Pfau’s work for humanity an inspiration for the present and future generations. Last week, following the state funeral held for Dr Pfau, the Sindh chief minister had also announced the renaming of the Civil Hospital Karachi after the eminent humanitarian.
The groundbreaking of the Fazaia Medical College was held in the first week of August and the institute will have a covered area of about 180,000 square feet and would be equipped with state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including auditorium classrooms, laboratories and associated educational infrastructure. It will have the capacity to accommodate 150 students with the provision of modern boarding and lodging facility for non-resident students. The college is likely to commence MBBS classes by the end of 2018.
