PESHAWAR: The doctors and other health workers boycotted duties at the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on Saturday against torture on a doctor at the hospital Casualty Department allegedly by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists on Friday night, said the hospital authorities.

The doctors and other staff suspended all services, except emergency cover, and didn’t attend outpatient departments, operation theaters, pathology, radiology, etc as a mark of protest against torture of the doctor.

According to the KTH administration, some PTI activists came to the Casualty Department of the hospital and wanted the doctors to examine their patients first.

A trainee medical officer, Dr Sajid, was stated to be on duty where dozens of patients were already waiting for turn. The doctor reportedly asked the PTI activist from Tehkal area to wait for his turn that enraged him and led to a physical scuffle between the PTI activists and the doctor.

The doctor reportedly suffered injuries, despite the hospital’s security staff and police guards were on duty. It infuriated the doctor community and they immediately announced strike at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the KTH Board of Governors (BoG) in its meeting held on Saturday condemned the attack on doctor. It implemented Security Act 2015 with immediate effect to ensure safety of the doctors and all other staff serving in the hospital.

Muqam visits KTH: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Amir Muqam on Saturday visited the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and inquired after the health of dengue victims admitted there.

He criticised the PTI-led government for its alleged failure in adopting a better strategy for avoiding the outbreak of dengue in the province.

The PML-N leader said even after the outbreak of dengue and loss of precious human lives, the PTI government didn’t take notice of the issue and denied reports of spread of dengue in Peshawar. He also announced Rs200,000 each for family of the victims of the dengue.
