The largest province of Pakistan, Balochistan, is a hub of natural resources. In 1952, Sui gas was discovered in the area and by 1955 it was being supplied to all other provinces. However, despite being the largest supplier of gas to all other provinces, the province is facing the acute shortage of gas. Only 14 cities in the province are getting the supply of the natural gas. In fact, Sui, the city that is blessed with the abundance of this natural resource, also doesn’t have the uninterrupted supply of gas. This unfortunate state of affairs is indeed alarming and highlights the failure of the concerned authorities to pay attention to the plight of the people of Balochistan.
These people are in a state of abjection because of the careless attitude of politicians. Although CPEC is said to be a game changer for the province, the truth is that the project will take some time to get completed. The question is: Will the people continue suffering until the project is completed? The people need relief on an immediate basis. Both the provincial and federal governments must look into this matter. The plight of the people living in Balochistan shouldn’t be ignored.
