LAHORE: Chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG) of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB), Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Akram Khan, has rejected reports of removal of chapters related to Islam, the country and Pakistan Army from primary textbooks.
Talking to The News, Gen (Retd) Akram Khan said all textbooks were based on the 2006 national curriculum. He said the textbooks highlighted in the media were two years old but the issue was being raised now. He said in order to ensure balance of content as per the spirit of the curriculum some chapters were rearranged.
Sharing an example, PCTB managing director Amir Ijaz said in one of the textbooks a chapter on Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed was replaced with a chapter on Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed as the chapter on Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed was already in another textbook. He said the move was aimed at maintaining balance in the content keeping in view learning capacity of the students. He said this was the case with other chapters on Islam and the country in some other textbooks. He said a detailed report had been prepared for the chief minister in this regard.
