Sindh ministers, MPs, bureaucrats facing over 550 NAB inquiries
KARACHI: Some 120 officers of the Sindh government and more than 10 politicians are facing around 550 inquiries and investigations of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), The News has learnt.
The Sindh High Court (SHC), seized with the petition against the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO)1999 Repeal Bill 2017, on Wednesday ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to continue its inquiries against the provincial assembly members and bureaucrats.
The SHC also asked for details and names of officers and politicians facing inquiries by NAB.The petition was filed jointly by opposition parties the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)-Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with the SHC challenging the controversial NAO 1999 Repeal Bill 2017 (now Act) recently enacted by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led provincial government.
According to documentary evidence apart from these 120 officers facing the NAB inquiries, 565 officials of the Sindh government of different grades had been proven guilty of corruption opted for Voluntary Return and deposited above rupees two billion. Majority of these officers are still holding important positions in Sindh’s bureaucracy.
The incumbent Law Minister, Zia Lanjar, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sattar Rajpar are facing corruption inquiries before NAB Sukkur while Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani, former minister Sharjeel Memon, MPA Dost Muhammad Rahmon, MPA Faqeerdad Khoso, former education minister Pir Mazharul Haq are facing corruption inquiries at NAB Karachi.
On the other hand, top officers including former chief secretary Muhammad Siddiq Memon, former IG Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali, former chief secretary Aijaz Choudri, secretary Saqib Soomro, Shazar Shamoon, Aftab Memon, Badar Jameel Mendhro, Ghulam Musatafa Phull, former secretary Local Government Ali Muhammad Lund, secretary Ali Dino Gahoti, former adminstrator KMC Rauf Akhtar Farooqi, former chairman Karachi Educational Board Anwar Zai, Managing Director Water Borad Hashim Raza Zaidi, former Director General Sindh Building Control Authority Manzoor Qadir Kaka, Deputy Commissioner Mehdi Shah, Suhail Adeeb Bachani, DIG Zulifqar Shah, DIG Sukkur Feroze Shah, SSP East Karachi Irfan Baloch, SSP Hyderabad Amjad Shaikh, SSP Kamran Nawaz, SSP Pir Fareed Saranhdi, SSP Khalid Mustafa Korai and SSP Faisal Bashir Memon working as Director Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment are facing corruption inquiries.
