LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition seeking disqualification of three MPAs of PML-N.
Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh issued this order on a petition filed by Zubair Niazi, a local leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, against MPAs Majid Zahoor, Khwaja Imran Nazir and Waheed Gull. The petitioner’s counsel Advocate Sheraz Zaka argued that the respondent MPAs had been working as directors of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) owned by Punjab government. He pointed out that the three MPAs were withdrawing allowances and salaries.
He argued that the respondents were not eligible to remain members of the assembly after being appointed as directors of the LWMC. The counsel said a public office holder could not receive remuneration/salary or allowances from any government-owned company. He requested the court to disqualify the respondent MPAs under Article 63 of the constitution. After hearing preliminary arguments, the court issued notice to the ECP for October 4
